COVID-19 Updates & Other Relevant Information

The Coronavirus/COVID 19 Situation and the Chippewa Township Fire Department:

CTFD is providing the exceptional quality of care the community has come to expect and has always received.

Here is some important information about how the Chippewa Township Fire Department is managing response during the Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation, and impacts to some of the department’s non-emergency services:

If you are experiencing an emergency, please dial 911.

The Chippewa Township Fire Department is operating 24/7, as it always has. There have not been any interruptions in service.

The department’s first responders are taking additional precautions to protect themselves on calls, including the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).

911 Dispatchers are asking screening questions when calls are received to identify possible viral alerts. This information is being relayed to first responders, so that they can take additional steps in protecting themselves when assisting patients.

The department’s first responders are taking every precaution to ensure that fire station is sanitized and kept clean.

The department is working closely with our medical director at Summa to update and distribute medical response protocols to all of CTFD’s emergency responders.

The department’s Prevention Division will not be performing routine fire inspections during this time to limit exposures to the facilities occupants and fire department personnel.

Out of caution and as a preventative measure, the Chippewa Township Fire Department has cancelled all public education programs, events, and station tours. No new programs will be scheduled for the foreseeable future, as the department continues to take steps to avoid further risk of transmission.

In an effort to protect our citizens, our employees, and to reduce exposure and the possible spread of the COVID-19 virus, Chippewa Township Fire Department will be closed to all visitors until further notice.  Although our building is closed, our department will continue to provide emergency services at full strength.

We appreciate your understanding and assistance as we all deal with the evolving Coronavirus situation.

To protect yourself from COVID-19

• If you don’t have access to soap and water, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer often.  Make sure it has at least 60% alcohol.

• Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth unless you have clean hands.
• Don’t have contact with people who are sick.

• Don’t share eating or drinking tools.

• Don’t kiss someone who is sick.

• Clean surfaces often with disinfectant.

                                                                                                                                                              UTILITY DISCONNECTIONS
Last week the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) took action to ask utilities to suspend disconnection and waive any requirements for reconnections for all types of customers (residential and business). All of the utilities are doing so, however, the PUCO has informed the OTA that there are some utilities that have not been able to edit their automated billing systems to stop sending disconnection notices; however, those utilities are not following through with the disconnections.
To read the PUCO’s utility reconnect order, please click here. Additionally, the PUCO directed utility companies to review disconnection and social contact policies and you can read that order here. Please share this information with your residents and encourage utility customers to contact the PUCO online with any questions or concerns.                                                                                  FirstEnergy Response Letter to COVID-19
